God Of War Creator Thinks Amazon’s Show Will Do Well, But Questions The Image

We’re getting a lot of God of War news lately. Santa Monica’s next game is reportedly a spin-off focusing on Faye, and Blupoint’s canceled live-action game might have featured Atreus in Greek hell. However, the biggest piece of news was that we got our first look at Kratos and Atreus in Amazon’s live action God of War TV show. Unfortunately, it wasn’t great.

At first glance, a lot of fans thought it was an AI-generated image just because of the overall lighting and positioning of the shot. Things only got worse when it was confirmed to be an actual teaser image by Prime Video, with fans not being able to get over the dad-bod that Ryan Hurst’s Kratos was sporting. Surprisingly, God of War creator, David Jaffe said he thinks the show will be good, but is wondering who approved that image.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Jaffe couldn’t help but laugh at the image. “Two things can be true. This can be a terrible image, and it is. It is so bad in so many ways, which we’ll talk about in a moment. Ron Moore is awesome, who is the showrunner,” he said. “He’s done Star Trek stuff. The guy is a juggernaut of a talented fellow. I have absolutely no doubt it is going to be a good show. Corey is on it. I think Corey uh has a great deal to offer, not just to this universe, but he’s great with storytelling. I’m not worried about the show.”

But what Jaffe is worried about is Amazon choosing this particular image. He didn’t care that Hurst didn’t exactly look like Kratos, saying he doesn’t care how it looks, as long as the actor can embody the essence of the character.

“It’s just a dumb f***ing image” he added. He suggested that perhaps the idea was to showcase the father-son dynamic rather than Kratos’ strength and rage, “But then at that point, could you find a picture that doesn’t look like he’s s**ting in the woods? Because that’s what the picture looks like.”

Coming to Atreus, Jaffe said, “You know, he looks and I know he’s supposed to be a little kid. But is it like, is he a little kid that needs glasses? Is he a little kid that maybe is a little special? Because look how he’s holding the bow and where he’s aiming the bow. Like, it’s like he’s not aiming. It’s just weird the way the whole image looks.” He also went on about how fake the rock behind them looks.

“I’m sure the show will be fine though, primarily because Ron Moore is a really good creator and showrunner, and Corey’s involved,” he concluded. Not before taking one last swipe at the image, saying whoever approved it needs to be “on some kind of list.”
