Resident Evil Requiem Has A Confusing OG Resi Easter Egg

Resident Evil Requiem Has A Confusing OG Resi Easter Egg

Resident Evil Requiem has a bit of a mind-bending easter egg that suggests that video games based on the video games exist in the Resident Evil universe.

Even though Resident Evil Requiem is arguably one of the darkest games in the series thanks to how it approaches both Grace and Leon’s stories, it’s not like Capcom forgot to have some fun with it. Not only can Leon tear through pretty much everything in his path for some good old stress relief, but Requiem also has a ton of easter eggs.

From Tofu appearing in a late-game mission to all of the callbacks and similar moments to some of the series’ previous games, Requiem is a treasure trove if you’re a fan of the series. It turns out that some of the characters in-universe might be fans as well, as the Resident Evil games somehow exist within the Resident Evil world.

Resident Evil Requiem Has An Easter Egg That’s Making My Head Hurt

It’s Not That Serious, But Come On

Over on Twitter, shojodie shared a really interesting easter egg that can be found once you reach Raccoon City as Leon. If you take part in Barry’s scavenger hunt and open up a locker, you’ll see a knock-off console that’s accompanied by a bunch of games that should look familiar to anyone who’s a Capcom fan.

Those games include Mega Man 8, Street Fighter (specifically Alpha 2), and, strangely, Resident Evil. It’s a little blurry, but the iconic box art and bright red font are hard to mix up. If you think about it too hard, this little easter egg suggests that the Resident Evil video games (as in the products) are canon in the Resident Evil universe.

That means that someone in the Resi world knows the events of Resident Evil 1 and decided to turn them into a game, right around the time they happened, judging by how old the fake console looks and when Raccoon City was bombed. Considering this is a universe where zombies exist and pop up pretty frequently, I can’t imagine the video games based on disasters are big hits…

I am mostly kidding since it’s really just a nice nod to Resi’s past, but it is fun to think about.

Resident Evil Requiem Has Convinced Me That A Resident Evil 1 Remake Would Work, As Long As It’s First-Person

Requiem is the closest Capcom has ever come to capturing the paranoia of the original Resident Evil games.
