The PS5 Pro has sold out on the official PlayStation Store, and it’s almost definitely because of all the rave reviews Resident Evil Requiem has been getting on the console.
Ever since the PS5 Pro was first announced, PlayStation has really struggled to justify its incredibly expensive existence. Sure, you can play some older games with both 60fps and ray-tracing in 4K, but the improvements really aren’t that noticeable enough to be worth paying nearly twice the cost of a base PS5.
I can say all of this since I’m one of the people who bought a PS5 Pro at launch without a second thought.
In the year and a bit since the PS5 Pro released, there have only been a handful of games (such as Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Spider-Man 2) that feel like they tangibly benefit from the Pro. That short list got a noticeable new entry this week, thanks to the release of Resident Evil Requiem, which is apparently the best way to play the game on consoles.
Resident Evil Requiem’s Glowing PS5 Pro Impressions Might Have Led To It Selling Out
The Timing Is Too Perfect
Resident Evil Requiem’s many ports are all getting glowing reviews, but Digital Foundry was especially positive about the PS5 Pro, which it called “head and shoulders” ahead of every other console. Considering how big a deal Requiem is and how well it’s selling, I can only imagine that a lot of fans want to experience it in the best way possible.

Resident Evil Requiem Has Convinced Me That A Resident Evil 1 Remake Would Work, As Long As It’s First-Person
Requiem is the closest Capcom has ever come to capturing the paranoia of the original Resident Evil games.
And it looks like that’s exactly what’s happened. As pointed out by Redditor TheEliteFreak on the PS5 Pro subreddit, the Pro is completely sold out on PlayStation’s official website, in both the US and the UK. Both websites say that the PS5 Pro is “currently unavailable” with no word on when more stock is coming in.
Considering how glowing the reviews for Requiem’s PS5 Pro enhancements are, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that it’s probably caused a lot of people to pull the trigger on the PS5 Pro. It’s not the only factor, though, as the upgraded PSSR (which is used in Requiem) and the impending release of GTA 6 are both legitimate reasons to make the switch. For now, though, it’s surely on Resi’s shoulders.
