Weddings traditionally include a cake, reciting your vows, and the happy couple sharing a first dance as their guests look on. There’s a better way to do that last one, though, as demonstrated by a newly-married couple whose wedding footage is going viral. Scratch the dance and settle in for your first fight in Soul Calibur as husband and wife instead.
Married Couple Trades In Their First Dance For A Showdown In Soul Calibur
That’s a tradition LolitaBot613 and JustinSGX have started (and I’m hoping will continue to popularize) via their own ceremony. A clip of the newlyweds sitting down at an arcade cabinet to play some Soul Calibur has gone viral, racking up close to one million views on Twitter in less than 24 hours, as it shows the happy couple gaming instead of dancing.
Lolita shared the clip on social media, over the moon that one of their wedding guests managed to capture some of their “Real First Dance”. She also claims to have taken the first set between them as husband and wife. Justin, having seen the clip shared by Dexerto, which is part of the reason it has started to go viral, has provided an additional clip that provides an extended look at their intense first fight as a married couple.
The Married Couple Live And Breathe Fighting Games
A little insight into Lolita and Justin’s day-to-day explains why the wedded pair might prefer to go one-on-one in Soul Calibur over a first dance. Together, they own and run Arcade Impact, a company in South Carolina that rents out cabinets and PC setups for tournaments and esports events. I’d hazard to guess that the cab they’re battling on, and the one that’s also in shot, is one they own.
More weddings should have a corner where guests can go to play video games. Let’s normalize it.
The newly married couple are also tournament organizers. Suffice to say, they were likely evenly matched in their first fight of the day, but if any of their guests stepped up to the plate afterwards, walking over to the cab when invited over, akin to the dancefloor during a first dance, then they were almost certainly soundly beaten.
With each of these viral fighting game stories, I become more convinced that the genre is one of the most popular among casual gamers. Not to say Lolita and Justin are casual gamers. I can say with some confidence that either of them would hand me my behind if I were to challenge them, regardless of the fighting game series in which we compete. The same goes for the new mom who won a Mortal Kombat tournament last year while holding her days-old baby in her arms. Just more evidence that fighting game fans are a different breed.
