Norse: Oath Of Blood has a lot going on as you progress through it, and it is easy to get overwhelmed by all the information. The key is to keep it simple, enjoy the story as it unfolds, and strategize as much as possible.
To help you get the best start as you begin to play Norse: Oath Of Blood, and have more of a chance to build a successful community to avenge your father’s death, we have some tips for you in this beginner’s guide.
Keep Watch For Interesting Items
When you are walking with your group along paths and through woodlands, there will be crates, barrels, or bags of loot to discover. These can contain any amount of useful resources from wood to leather or even riches.
Each interactable item will appear as you get closer, but if you want to ensure you don’t miss anything that may be off the beaten path, use your highlight button regularly.

Gain every achievement in Norse: Oath Of Blood
When using a controller, it is easier to highlight constantly as you run, so you don’t miss anything. Interactable containers like barrels and bags show up quite clearly, while hoof prints, droppings, and Runestones have a more subtle highlight, and it is good to keep a sharp eye out for them.
Runestones are large, painted rocks, so if you do miss the highlight, you can spot them from the colorful iconography on the outside.
Boost HP With Berries
As you use the highlight feature, it will also sometimes highlight bushes of berries or dried meat during a run through the woods. On the first pass through, you won’t need to eat the food, as your team should be at full health. However, after taking a side path, you may have a surprise encounter in the woods with wolves or wild boar, and lose some HP.
Make sure to take a mental note of where the berry bushes or dried meat are, so you can return to them after the wild animal encounter to heal up any injured party members. It is best to scroll through each team member and select the one who is most in dire need of the health boost. Don’t waste the food on any units with only 1 HP missing.
Zoom Out
As tempting as it is to stay zoomed in tight to your team and enjoy the atmosphere, it is best to zoom out as you explore and as you fight. That way, you will see everything you need to see, from enemies, to dropped items, berry bushes, animal tracks and loot positioned away from your main path.
It is also a good way to spot any paths further on, where you will either want to find any possible loot or Runestone there, or avoid a confrontation with wolves or wild boar if your team is already injured.
When in battle, zooming out can help you see the entire scene at once, especially those sneaky foes hiding behind hay stacks or boxes. If you aren’t careful, you can miss an easy attack nearby because you weren’t aware that the enemy moved.
Get The Perfect Formation
When entering a new battle, you will need to deploy each unit in formation before any action takes place. This is your first chance to use strategy and make the most out of the fighters you have.
Take some time to scroll through the units you have, checking the abilities and weapons each one has. You will want to position your strongest units with the most health on the frontline, and weaker units behind.
Archers can be set behind other units and behind boxes or hay bales as they are long-distance damage-dealers who will shoot over any objects.
Check For Dropped Weapons
During a fight, you can use the highlight action again. By doing this, you will see barrels with spears poking out of them, rocks on the ground, or dropped axes. Use these to your advantage by picking them up and using them on an enemy.
- Throw Spear cause between +2 to +4 Damage, +2 Bleed, plus 1 tile Knockback.
- Throw Axe causes between +2 to +4 Damage, +1 Armor Break, and 1 tile Knockback.
- Throw Rock causes between +1 to +3 Damage, and has a 50% chance of inflicting the Dazed effect.
Don’t Skip Cutscenes
One of the best things about Norse: Oath Of Blood is that it is a solid story-driven game. There are plenty of great cutscenes, thanks to the actors bringing the story to life, creating some truly memorable and funny scenes that you can enjoy in the bits in between the action, and it is clear that a lot of hard work has gone into these moments.
It would be a shame to miss out on the essential plot and atmosphere that the cutscenes bring, not to mention the ‘News & Hearsay” when you refresh your turn after coming back from a mission. It is the little things that bring color and excitement to the game.
Whether it is the interactions between characters or the creative pieces of script just before you head into a mission, each gives you insight into the characters, village life, and more depth to the story.
Prioritize The Right Projects
Starting and completing Projects at home is essential to progressing in Norse: Oath Of Blood, as building and production will boost your village’s standing. The more you build and enhance in your village, the more money and resources you can bring in.
With your money and resources, you invite more villagers with the skills and strength you need to become the leader you need to be to avenge your father and find your mother.
After completing the very basics in your village, you will want to focus on increasing trade and the ability to craft items to sell in exchange for scarce resources. You can load in the resources you already have to any projects you want to complete while you wait for other resources to come in.
The first Projects we recommend putting your resources into are:
- Sweat Lodge
- Village Market
- Large Dock
- Any Fishing needs
- Huntsman Dwelling
Loot Before You Leave
After a fierce battle, your first instinct will be to leave and get back home for ale and celebrations; however, stay behind a while to see what else there is to do or find.
It is best to explore the entire area after a fight to see what you can pick up. Eat the berries from bushes, find a nearby Runestone, and loot corpses to find special tokens, unlock armor and weapons. Don’t leave any dead body unlooted, or you risk missing out on unlocking new armor or other useful items.
Trade Skillfully
Trade is unlocked when you reach turn 16. After this, you can Trade and Recruit with allies and neutral parties. The trick with this is to take your time, and ponder over the items available.
It is best to balance the books with each trade, so you don’t waste money. Check every possible ally’s in-demand items, and offset the cost of what you need with items they require.
Check over each ally first, before settling to trade, so you get the best deal for all. You can trade with one person and buy someone else’s in-demand items, then sell or trade those goods to get what you truly desire.
