Crimson Desert feels like a game that is too good to be true. Every trailer we’ve seen so far makes it look like an incredibly ambitious, single-player RPG, coming from a developer and a franchise that primarily deals in multiplayer experiences. Surely, there has to be a catch, because the industry these days has taught us to believe that any good-looking RPG from a big publisher is a trap.
Well, we’re yet to see what the trap is with Crimson Desert, because once again, Crimson Desert sounds like the perfect RPG, as a new interview with the streamer CohCarnage has revealed more details about the game’s monetization methods. Good news, there isn’t any.
Crimson Desert Online Won’t Have Any Microtransactions.
“I can say that definitively that there is not a cosmetic cash shop,” says Will Powers, who is the director of marketing for developer Pearl Abyss. “This is made to be a premium experience that you buy, and you enjoy the world, and not something with microtransactions.” He goeson to say that a free-to-play model would make more sense, if they were going for microtransactions, but with Crimson Desert, it’s meant to be a standalone game that you purchase the once.
Once again, that will be music to the ears of anyone still worried about Pearl Abyss sneaking some of the more Black Desert Online-esque monetization methods into the game.
It’s also nice to hear that cosmetics can actually be earned in-game, rather than purchasable like so many other games that are around these days. Somehow, a game being made by a developer of an MMO is teaching developers exactly how to make a big, ambitious RPG that actually respects not only players but their wallets too.
