FF7 Rebirth On Switch 2 Will Have An Option To Trivialize Tedious Mini-Games

When game boosts came to Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, many rejoiced. The recent Switch 2 and Xbox versions of the nearly-six-year-old game—the former of which appears to be selling rather admirably—come packed with in-game cheats that make replays a breeze. First-timers who want to focus chiefly on the presentation and worry not one bit over the combat can also appreciate the option. Best of all, PS5 and PC players get the same treatment now via a free patch.

It was expected that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth would be given similar treatment. Now, we know that Square Enix is wasting no time bringing the second part in its groundbreaking trilogy to more platforms, as it will follow Remake to Nintendo and Microsoft frontiers on June 2. (It’s also got an exclusive Magic the Gathering card, too, if you should happen to snag the boxed version for Switch 2.) And, thanks to a recent promo video and quick clarification from the ever-reliable Naoki Hamaguchi, we know what we’re in for.

9,999 Reasons To Platinum

“Launching on June 3 for Xbox and Switch 2, FFVII REBIRTH also includes the popular Boost features from the previous title,” trilogy co-director Hamaguchi tweeted on social media platform X. “For players who find mini‑games difficult, a new “9999 Damage” assist option has been added. We hope these features help everyone enjoy the adventure in a way that best fits their playstyle.”

This is huge. I’ll list out all of the boost features in a sec, but I want to bring close attention to this one. Look, Rebirth is a critical darling. And many, many, fans concur. It’s one of the best JRPGs of the past decade, easily, and it’s an improvement on the already-good Remake across the board. But criticism certainly exists, and much of it targets the sheer volume of minigames—many of which are unskippable. Myself, I love minigames, and their proliferation throughout the game is a big part of why I feel so damned nostalgic for the old days whenever I boot Rebirth back up. But I get it. Frankly, some of these are not good.

Any minigame that involves damage calculations has just been summarily dispatched. One of the short clips Hamaguchi posted as part of his tweet, by way of example, involves Yuffie absolutely pulverizing cactuars in the Corel region’s Protorelic questline. This nukes what can be a frustrating ordeal.

Here’s the full list of available boosts:

  • Constant Max HP
  • Constant Max MP
  • Limit Gauge Always Full
  • Constant Max Synergy
  • ATB Gauge Always Full
  • Constant Max Damage
  • Max Damage: Minigames
  • 2x EXP and 3x AP Gain
  • Easy Weapon Ability Acquisition
  • More Materials Collected
  • Constant Max Gil
  • Constant Max Recovery Items
  • Max Materia Levels

I’m not sure if this necessarily means you’ll be hitting for 10k with every swing in the Fort Condor minigame, or one-shotting every crate at the prison, or obliterating Gears & Gadgets in Cosmo Canyon, or what. But if it’s something along those lines, then holy heck, this is a massive moment. Imagine, if you will, 3D Brawler… like this. I’d caution against assuming that’ll be the case, though, since these sorts of minigames run off of separate systems. Still… I can’t say I’d complain. I have lived in fear of that late-game Shinra Middle Manager side quest for literal years at this point.
