Xbox’s Next-Gen Console Could Launch In 2027

A lot has been said about Xbox’s new strategy. Not everyone likes that the company has moved away from its console-first approach and its ‘Everything is an Xbox’ campaign. Add to that dwindling sales and retailers not stocking Xbox consoles or games, and you wouldn’t be wrong to think that there wouldn’t be a next-gen Xbox.

However, Xbox has denied these claims, saying that a new console will be launched, although it will be “a premium, high-end curated experience, according to president Sarah Bond. While we still don’t know what exactly that means, this new “high-end” Xbox console could be coming out as early as next year.

A New Xbox Could Launch Next Year

While Xbox hasn’t explicitly said this, a comment by AMD CEO Lisa Su certainly suggests so. Speaking on an investor call about the company’s work on the next-gen Xbox chip, Su said it’s “progressing well to support a launch in 2027” (thanks VGC). It’s worth pointing out that Microsoft hasn’t announced a date, or anything else about the console, and it may decide not to launch it next year.

No clear launch dates for the next-gen Xbox or PlayStation consoles have been announced. In fact, insiders and analysts have suggested that they may get delayed due to the rising prices of RAM and other components brought around by the high demand of AI data centres. Only time will tell when the next-gen consoles will be officially revealed.

Ubisoft, baby, what are you doing?

As for the new Xbox console, besides confirming that there will be one, Bond said the “console is going to be a very premium, very high-end curated experience. You’re starting to see some of the thinking we have in this handheld [ROG Xbox Ally], but we don’t want to give it all away.”

The Series X|S generation hasn’t been the company’s strongest, with recent reports revealing that it barely sold over 30,000 units in Japan last year and that only one in five developers is even interested in making games for the Series X.
