RIP – Reincarnation Insurance Program features two bosses per region — a mid boss and a final boss. Naturally, the final boss is more challenging and dangerous than the previous one. In the case of Death Swamp, the starting area in the game, you’ll have to face Corrupted Treant as the last boss.
Also called Corrupted Ancient, this huge mutated tree won’t make things easy for you. Its attacks have a lot of range, and things can get a bit confusing with all the projectiles and summons going around. In this guide, you’ll learn everything you need to know to defeat Corrupted Ancient in RIP – Reincarnation Insurance Program.
How To Defeat Corrupted Ancient
Corrupted Treant, also called Corrupted Ancient in-game, is a much bigger enemy than the previous boss, Venomous Widow. You’ll face it while trying to finish the first area, Death Swamp.
Freezing bullets is a great elemental ailment to have against this boss because you’ll be able to freeze it and gain free hits all the time.
Contrary to the big spider, you might have an issue here with your range. While the boss looks massive, you can only hit its legs, which means that you need to be somewhat close to it. Considering its big-range attacks (which we will go over below), you might run away most of the time. But you need to balance this, or your bullets will never reach the boss.
We will highlight which moves let you counter-attack more easily.
Most Corrupted Treant’s attacks cover a lot of the arena and have a big range. For example, a simple blow with its arms has a big red cone on the ground. Another melee attack creates a huge rectangle in front of it. You can dodge both attacks by running to the sides or rolling away.
These are great moves to be somewhat close and shoot the enemy.
The boss likes to summon many things on the field, and one of them is a series of traps on the ground. You’ll see small red circles on the ground, and a group of branches will start appearing on them, one at a time. Spending your rolls on these is a bad idea, because many circles will appear, they track your movements, and you’ll be out of rolls fast.
Instead, simply run away from them, without shooting. If you run and shoot, you’ll move a bit slower, and you won’t have enough time to dodge anything. If you’re trapped, you won’t be able to move for some vital seconds. Leave your bullets for after.
To know that this attack is coming, you’ll see Corrupted Ancient hit the ground with both of its arms.
Other things summoned by Corrupted Ancient are a series of smaller enemies that look like brains with branches. You can shoot them to defeat them, but keep in mind that they explode, causing AoE damage in a very close range. And if they get near you, they will also explode doing the same thing, so it’s up to you if you want to keep your ammo or not.
I recommend shooting them at first, when there are too many, and then just keeping an eye while dealing damage to the boss.
Thirdly, Corrupted Treant can also summon a small tree on the ground, which will send branches across the whole arena in straight lines. Fortunately, these don’t track you, but be sure to avoid them because they will trap you for quite a few seconds, leaving you vulnerable.
Once you see the branches going around you, you can focus on shooting the boss.
Perhaps one of the most annoying attacks from the boss is a two-step stomp that creates a pink wave of damage that covers almost the whole arena. You’ll hear a strange sound, and then hear each stomp before seeing the wave.
While you can be out of its reach if you’re too far away from the enemy, at the opposite limit of the arena, this isn’t a really secure strategy. It’s better to learn how to perfect dodge — when you’re about to get hit by the wave (when you see the color about to touch you), roll toward it. You’ll see your character dodge slowly, leaving a yellow afterimage.
Don’t forget that you need to do this twice, since there are always two stomps!
When you take out around 40 percent of Corrupted Ancient’s health bar, it will gain a new move where it will shoot multiple pink projectiles to the ground. You will see the circles on the ground, and they don’t have a long range, so you should be safe if you’re a bit far away from the boss.
This is the only new move that the boss will gain. Then, the battle will proceed very similarly, copying all the moves that you have seen so far.
As rewards for defeating Corrupted Ancient, you’ll earn five pieces of random gear (one Mythic, the rest can range from Rare to Epic), Risk Level 2 for Death Swamp, and the next area, Desert Ruins.
