Nintendo’s dominance in Japan really knows no bounds. Two weeks ago, Japanese magazine Famitsu released its findings on the top ten best-selling physical games in the country of 2025, with Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 games taking up seven of the spots.
Now, the magazine has expanded its findings from the top ten to the top 100, and, probably unsurprisingly, Nintendo software is still dominant.
Nintendo Absolutely Dominates Japan’s Top 100 Sales Charts
In the latest edition of Famitsu (and transcribed on the Install Base forum), the magazine calculated the top 100 best-selling physical games in Japan last year, and Nintendo ran riot.
Of the top 100, 64 were physical games sold on the Nintendo Switch, with a further 16 on the Switch 2. The chart tracks individual SKUs, so some games, like Pokemon Legends: Z-A, appear twice, but it’s a great indication of just how well the company is performing in its homeland.
More Than Half Of 2025’s Live Service Games Have Lost Over 90 Percent Of Their Players
15 of the 19 games we looked at lost between 80-99 percent of their players last year.
41 of the top 50 come from Nintendo, with Monster Hunter Wilds, Ghost of Yotei, Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake, Dynasty Warriors: Origins, Death Stranding 2, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Silent Hill f, and Elden Ring Nightreign’s PS5 versions taking up the other nine spots.
One PS4 game, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii in 55th, made the charts, and unsurprisingly, given the poor uptake of the hardware in the country, no Xbox games made the list.
