Final Fantasy 7 Remake Sees Major Uptick In Platinum Trophies

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Sees Major Uptick In Platinum Trophies

Late last month, Square Enix introduced “Streamlined Progression” to the PlayStation 5 and PC versions of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, giving all players access to the extremely busted feature set, including the ability to always hit for 9,999 damage or have your HP and MP consistently topped up.

That, coupled with “Head Start Mode,” another feature that gave players an instant boost, made FF7’s Remake campaign rather trivial, and as a byproduct, its Platinum Trophy.

Nintendo Switch 2 Is The New Best Way To Play Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is yet another excellent port for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Shouldn’t be a problem, right? The more people experiencing a game is a good thing, and Trophies are ultimately just virtual goodies with no real-world bearing. Well, there’s a rather vocal community that has some disagreements.

Over on PSN Profiles, where registered users can chart their Trophy progress, 17,755 have achieved FF7 Remake’s Platinum, including a number of users in recent days, including 50 between January 28 (Wednesday) and today (February 1 at 4:00 p.m.).

That seemingly brought up a debate within the website’s forum about the legitimacy of a Platinum after “cheats.”

“It waters down the hobby and (disincentivizes) developers from producing harder content when they notice players don’t actually partake in it,” one of the fiercest people against the update wrote.

“I, for one, value the journey so could never do something like that,” someone else against the premise wrote on Reddit.

Others were seemingly unfazed. After all, the cheats don’t invalidate existing Platinum owners.

“As someone who got the Platinum legit ages ago, I understand the ire,” another wrote. “But honestly, anything that makes games accessible to a wider audience is a good thing, and someone using the features does not invalidate my own journey. I hope this comes to Rebirth as well. That’s a game I think has scared some off with its difficulty, and that’s unfortunate.”

Trophies Have Been Broken Long Before FF7

With the existence of titles like My Name is Mayo, along with developers seemingly focused on easy Trophies like Breakthrough Gaming, the idea that Final Fantasy 7 Remake broke the sanctity of the Platinum is quite ludicrous. That’s not even counting games like Nier, where you can “buy” the Platinum, or Telltale titles that hand out Trophies like candy.

They’re digital collectibles at the end of the day. That more people can potentially complete the game is amazing, and if by some chance the Platinum becomes that much easier is really not that big of a deal. Especially when you still need all the other Trophies!

Highguard’s Failure Shouldn’t Matter This Much

Highguard has become a talking point for gaming artistry, instead of just a generic shooter that’s not as good as Apex Legends.
