Baldur’s Gate 3 Fans Feel Resisting The Dark Urge Should Have Been Harder

Dark Urge gives you a unique way to replay Baldur’s Gate 3 after you’re done with a regular playthrough with Tav, and maybe a few more to fix your mistakes. In fact, many fans even think Durge is the canon protagonist of the game, due to how convoluted their storyline is. But, it seems that players have one issue with Durge’s arc.

Throughout your adventure, Durge is haunted by a… dark urge for murder. In fact, at some points in the story, they even lose control and commit atrocities. However, for someone who is haunted by such thoughts at all times, it’s pretty easy to ignore by choosing the ‘good guy’ options. It should probably be a bit more difficult to resist the urge.

The Urge Needs To be A Bit Stronger

As pointed out by FriendlyHoovie‘s Reddit post, the resist Dark Urge path could have been made a bit more interesting with a few skill checks in place to actually resist the urge to murder. Currently, there are only a few places in the game where it takes over or you need to pass a skill check. The rest are just in the form of regular dialogue options.

“I love playing resist Urge, but it’s kinda weird how many of the dialogue options talk about how guilty they feel and how difficult it is to resist, but the only thing the player has to do is not select the obviously evil option,” they said. “I’m pretty sure the only unavoidable Urge options in the game are Alfira / Quil the bard, that one squirrel in emerald grove, and Isobel or your closest companion if you don’t pass the check. All of which occur relatively early in the game.”

They suggested that adding a few more skill checks along the way, at critical junctures, would make the resist Dark Urge path even more interesting. Sure, you might lose out on some companions or content, but that’s what makes it even more interesting. It also illustrates how difficult it is to truly resist the urge.

To add to that, one of the comments suggested, “it should have been decision based. The fact that only one decision can affect the ending feels unsatisfying. The final choice to embrace or resist Bhaal should have a check that increases in difficulty if it’s the opposite choice of how you’ve been playing up until that point.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 Isn’t Coming To Nintendo Switch 2, And No I Can’t Believe It Either

Larian has confirmed that bringing Baldur’s Gate 3 to Switch 2 is sadly out of its hands.

It seems most of the comments are in agreement about this, but there are those worried that it would take away player agency too much. But that’s precisely why Larian suggests that it shouldn’t be your first, or even second, playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3.
