Arc Raiders’ Most Dangerous Location Is Not What You Think

Arc Raiders isn’t an easy game. Even if you go topside kitted out in your best gear, you could easily fall prey to a leaper jumping out at you from nowhere or a ‘rat’ waiting at the extraction point to loot your corpse. It takes real skill to survive in the Rust Belt, especially because it’s not just Arcs and other raiders that can kill you.

Multiplayer shooters have hot zones where the fighting and deaths usually take place. Narrow lanes or loot-heavy zones are the usual culprits, and the same applies to Arc Raiders as well. However, design lead Virgil Watkins has revealed that many raiders have died in one particular spot, and it’s not because they got killed by an enemy.

Beware The Spaceport’s Launch Tower

In an interview with GamesRadar+, Watkins revealed that the devs have a way to see where most deaths have taken place in the game. When asked about collecting data, he said that a heatmap on the back end gives developers an idea of where most of the action is taking place. However, it’s not where you would think.

“The amount of people that fall from the launch tower in Spaceport,” said Watkins. “You can see the ring of splats around it with all these unfortunate people, and the ones that get knocked off the zip lines in one way or another when they’re going up and down.” You may have seen some of these clips of players falling to their demise in hilarious ways.

The team is “working hard on mitigations and solutions to fix the problem.”

Speaking about the data, Watkins said that parsing through the data requires a bit more care, as it would otherwise just be a sea of red on the heatmap. “You’ve got to be a little more specific. But it definitely kicks up some interesting spots where you don’t necessarily anticipate combat happening, but then you realize it’s a result of, like, this activity spawns there, and the spawn points tend to collapse at this moment, and that’s why it turns into a hot spot.”

He added that there are specific control zones where the heatmap reveals a higher concentration of deaths. These are mostly ambush zones, where players lie in wait for some poor, unaware raider to show up.
