Goku’s English dub voice actor, Sean Schemmel, shared his live reaction to the announcement of a new Dragon Ball Super anime, and he was just as surprised as the rest of us.
Over the past few months, Dragon Ball fans have been holding on to hope that the future of the franchise would finally be revealed at yesterday’s Genkidamatsuri festival. It’s been a long time since Dragon Ball had any kind of new anime project, so everyone was praying that something big would be revealed.
As you no doubt know by now, that’s exactly what ended up happening. One of the main announcements of the event was that the Dragon Ball Super anime is finally coming back, and it’s going to be adapting the Galactic Patrol arc from the manga, like literally everyone was asking for. It came as quite a surprise, even to those deeply involved with the series.
Goku’s Voice Actor Had The Best Reaction To Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol
At Least, Until He Remembered All The Screaming He’ll Have To Do
As pointed out by Twitter user DbsHype, Goku’s voice actor in the English dub of Dragon Ball Z, Sean Schemmel, went live on Twitch yesterday to share his reactions to the big Genkidamatsuri stream. As the stream started to tease something new by flying past the most recent movies, Schemmel bet that they were about to “announce a movie”.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s Daima DLC Part 1 Is Good, But You’re Better Off Waiting For The Full Thing
Kakarot’s Daima expansion is one of its most unique and interesting, but it’s let down by just how short it is.
Then, as the stream finally confirmed that Dragon Ball Super was returning with the Galactic Patrol arc, Schemmel let out a massive shout of surprise, even saying an incredibly elongated “holy s**t” at the big news. From there, Schemmel seemed a little lost for words, which I think was true of every Dragon Ball fan who never expected to see the arc get adapted.
Of course, there’s a chance that Schemmel had some idea about the future of Dragon Ball, but his surprised reaction does seem very genuine. Considering how early the new Super anime is in production and how far off the English dub no doubt is, I’m choosing to believe that Schemmel found out the good news at the exact same time as the rest of us. Good luck with those screams against Moro.
