Caitlyn is one of the most interesting characters added to the 2XKO roster. She’s quickly become one of the go-to characters for part of your duo, providing tons of opportunity and versatility to every match. Of course, this makes her one of the more difficult characters to master, with some combat trials that are extremely hard to pull off.
Don’t let that stop you though. Caitlyn is well worth the investment with a kit that has a ton of utility, providing good range that’ll allow you to dominate your opponent from almost anywhere on the stage. Here’s everything you’ll need to know to play Caitlyn the right wayin 2XKO.
How To Play Caitlyn
The first thing to know when picking up Caitlyn is to understand her spacing. Although she plays like a typical zoner, a vital part of her success is understanding that she’s not just stuck dealing damage from afar.
Her Medium and Heavy attacks have a decent range, and combined with her guns, you can tackle your opponent from afar, but you also won’t be too terrible up close either.
You can aim from different angles and use her Enticing Trap to help you move forward after attacking from afar, to better take up space to get your combos started.
There’s also the Enforcer Hexshield that’ll provide both defensive and offensive opportunities. You need to understand how these work to use her to her full potential.
Enforcer Hexshield

The Enforcer Hexshield Super is pretty versatile. It can be used defensively to help you block from oncoming attacks, saving you and your partner while also providing a safe tag-in.
It can also help you run forward and create space as Caitlyn, providing a much needed opportunity to grant Caitlyn some mobility in a pinch.
With this, the Enforcer Hexshield also lets you bounce your bullets off it, creating danger zones for the opponent as well as opening you up for great combo potential.
Caitlyn has a flexible combo route to go from attacks to special moves into supers, and your Enforcer Shield should always be used to enhance this. While its primary use is for protection, don’t be afraid to use it offensively as well.
Enticing Trap

Enticing Trap |
Down + S2 (Can be held, done in the air, and it can bounce opponents off the ground) |
|---|
One of the biggest parts of your arsenal, as far as setting up combos and dealing damage, is your Enticing Trap. You’ll want to use it a lot, but must also use it situationally.
Before using it, though, understand that it has a decently long start-up, and throwing it leaves you vulnerable. This means you shouldn’t throw it in front of an opponent where they can reach you or when they’re running at you, as both situations will likely have you get hit during the throwing animation, opening you up for their combos instead of setting up your own. You should only use it when you have enough space.
Combining your Enticing Trap with an assist is a great tip, as you can throw it out while your assist is out, and it’ll protect you. Your opponent will be forced to block, creating an opening for your trap placement. A good example is to do a Light, Medium, Heavy into Assist combo, then throw your Enticing Trap down.
The best way to use Enticing Trap is at the end of your combos. Set up a situation where you knock down your opponent, throw your trap down, and it’ll land in front of them, so it’s a threat to them. This leaves them in a position where they can’t do anything without falling into your combo.
You can also throw it on top of them at the end of a combo, so when they get up, they’re immediately pressured by whatever you want to do. You should try to use it as much as you can in normal neutral play.
If you can have your Enticing Trap down at all times, it makes a great spot for you to play around it. You can shoot from where you are and control the pacing of the match, while keeping your opponent in check with the trap on the ground.
If you shoot your Enticing Trap, the bullet ricochets toward where your opponent is at the time (known as Trick Shot). It doesn’t home, but it goes in the direction they were after hitting the trap. This leaves a great opportunity to combine your gun with your trap and set up more damage.
Rifle Shot
Caitlyn’s main rifle is great as an interruptor. Because you can aim it up and down, you can use it to shoot someone jumping at you, crouching, etc., keeping your distance and punishing anyone attempting to rush into your space.
If the opponent gets too close, her Advancing Roll or Evasive Roll will have her roll in whatever direction you’re facing while holding your gun. It’s a quick way to help create some space for yourself if an opponent is closing in. With Steady Shot, she rolls and then shoots after, creating a nice defensive backdash or dash forward.
You have several options here when it comes to her gun, with Closing Shot, Skyward Shot, and Reload Shot all helping you keep space and deal damage.
Don’t forget when using Piltover Peacemaker super that headshots deal more damage, so there’s actually a benefit to aiming your shots.
Her rifle is a heavy part of her combos, as her partially charged shots help extend her combos. If you shoot with enough chrage you can get your opponent to wall bounce, allowing you to continue your combos even further.
Best Tag Partners For Caitlyn
Caitlyn is amazing as a tag partner for several characters, all of which can use her zoning, traps, and space to continue unbelievable combos. Anyone who can benefit from her trap gimmick can bounce opponents and continue combos she starts, creating some dadly interactions. Here are some of the best Champions to pair her with.

Tag Partner |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Ahri |
Ahri is a natural addition here, as she can run with whatever setup Caitlyn puts down, and she has the movement to do so. As Caitlyn, set up an Enticing Trap to add continuous pressure when tagging in. Ahri is great at adding pressure and keeping up pressure, as they’re both zoners helping cover each other, allowing them both to basically do what they want to any opponent caught in the middle. |
|
Ekko |
Ekko is another great option here. He provides great mix up potential, especially in the corner where Caitlyn can help keep your opponent locked with an assist. This makes her actual assist much more useful than it is on average, with Ekko taking advantage of the situation. |
|
Vi |
Vi can benefit from the same Enticing Trap gimmick as the others, providing a ton more damage and adding pressure as well. As a Rushdown character, she can run into the perfect setup from Caitlyn and devastate the opponent. |
|
Yasuo |
Yasuo’s speed allows him to pick up Caitlyn’s combos, keeping the opponent off their feet while providing Caitlyn with defense and the opponent with offense through the versatility of his kit. As an all-rounder, he can deal with any opponent Caitlyn comes up against, and can continue her combos while providing much needed protection when she doesn’t have meter for her shield. |
