The Blood Of Dawnwalker Director Confirms Romance Options, Delighting Everyone

There are few things more likely to get an RPG fan invested in an upcoming game than romance options, and no one understands this better than the CD Projekt Red veterans who head up Rebel Wolves.

Rebel Wolves is preparing to release The Blood of Dawnwalker this year, a gothic dark fantasy set in the Carpathians during the fourteenth century. You play as Coen, a hybrid vampire/human called a Dawnwalker. The entire game is themed around the duality of Coen’s identity, as quests can be tackled during the day (as a human) or at night (as a vampire).

Romance By Night

Mateusz Tomaskiewicz—lead quest designer on The Witcher 3 and creative director at Rebel Wolves—is one of the developers leading the project, and given how many potential suitors Geralt of Rivia had in that critically acclaimed RPG, we expect Coen will also have a few potential partners to choose from.

In a developer interview on New Game+ Showcase, the streamer Luality asked Tomaskiewicz to confirm that the hot vampires weren’t just there for show (nice spot, GamesRadar+).

“Yes, of course,” Tomaskiewicz answered. “There are romance options, yes. We didn’t delve deep into with whom yet, and I’ll leave that for the future to talk about. However, yes, you can expect to build relationships with the characters.”

“We’re Not Going The High Fantasy Route”: The Blood Of Dawnwalker Will Have A “More Grounded” Magic System

The Blood of Dawnwalker is going for something dark and raw, instead of fantastical.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to those familiar with the developers’ past work, but it’s nice to have confirmation that romance is something that the team is actively working on.

I attended a hands-off preview of The Blood of Dawnwalker at last year’s Gamescom, and I was thoroughly impressed with what I saw. The entire experience is crafted around the twin concepts of day and night, and entire quests can play out completely differently depending on what time of day you choose to tackle them.

As for time, The Blood of Dawnwalker has a built-in timer that progresses upon quest completion (and other activities), and you only have a limited amount of time to complete the game’s main objective. Time is a resource and needs to be managed wisely.

Of course, that won’t stop me from spending all of my time trying to romance someone. My family can wait.
