If You Can’t Wait For MTG’s Lorwyn Eclipsed To Release, You Can Now Experience The Plane In Skyrim

We’re just a couple of weeks from the release of Magic: The Gathering’s upcoming set, Lorwyn Eclipsed. The plane was originally introduced in a dedicated block of two sets, “Lorwyn”, in 2007, followed by a related block of two sets, “Shadowmoor”, in 2008. The aesthetic of the plane proved so popular over the years that Wizards of the Coast decided to revisit Lorwyn in 2026.

However, if you can’t wait two weeks to visit the fantastical, forested plane of Lorwyn, then Anopelao96 has you covered. The user in question is a Skyrim modder who’s recreating Lorwyn in Bethesda’s RPG piece by piece. So far, Anopelao has released six different mods based on the Magic: The Gathering setting.

Step into Lorwyn

Skyrim Lorwyn Fantastical Trees Mod

The first, and my personal favourite, is ‘Forests of Lorwyn: High Fantasy Tree Overhaul‘. As the name suggests, the mod reskins the non-snowy parts of Skyrim to resemble lands from the original Lorwyn block. This means twisting, gnarled trees and a fae-like aesthetic to Skyrim’s forests.

As the author explains, Falkreath and Riften are based on Lorwyn’s Forests, while Mortal is based on Lorwyn’s Swamps. Skyrim’s various tundra regions are based on Lorwyn’s Plains. It’s a neat recreation, and Anopelao has done a fantastic job capturing the magical feeling of Lorwyn.

Some of Lorwyn’s many creatures have also been adapted, such as the Flamekin Elementals. These elementals have been placed alongside Forsworn, and also in three original villages scattered around Skyrim.

Similarly, Anopelao has added the rather terrifying-looking Kithkins and placed them in aesthetically-appropriate spots around Skyrim, including in three bespoke villages.

MTG Head Designer Says In-Multiverse Is Getting More Attention Than Ever Following More Universes Beyond Backlash

MTG head designer Mark Rosewater says in-multiverse Magic is “getting more attention from us than ever” following fresh backlash over Universes Beyond

In the mod for the Merrows, the author has even included a unique spawn for Sygg, a legendary creature introduced in Shadowmoor. The regular variants of these creatures are placed alongside Skyrim’s bodies of water.

Skyrim Changeling Lorwyn Mod

Ominously, there’s also a mod for Lorwyn’s Changelings. These are blue-skinned creatures that masquerade as other creatures in the game, which is going to do nothing to alleviate my phobia of Skyrim’s many creatures. I mean, look at that Turtle Changeling. I can’t fight that.

I sincerely hope that the author and others continue to adapt Lorwyn so that we can eventually have something that resembles an overhaul mod. After all, Hasbro doesn’t seem interested in adapting the setting into an RPG despite constant requests from the community.
