Correcting the mistakes of the past is one of the biggest themes in Pathologic 3, and as soon as you get the ability to travel through time, you’re immediately presented with some alternate choices to make. One of the big ones is to save Rubin from his death at the hands of angry men on Day 3.
You see, Rubin, the last person to see Simon Kain alive, is also suspected of having his body. If you do nothing to stop the bandits on Day 3, you’ll be without a lead for your sole reason for being in the town in the first place.
How To Save Rubin On Day 3
Rubin is located within the Warehouses district on Day 3, and there will be a riot here, making it very difficult to make your way through the area. It is very likely to be your first rioting district, so it’s important that you know the key to survival:
- The rioters can’t be talked to, they will simply attack you on sight.
- You can threaten the rioters by aiming your gun at them. It’s inadvisable to shoot them, though – Daniil will suffer and bullets are rather uncommon. You’ll need one for this very quest, in fact.
- Shooting a bullet in the air, however, acts as a way to threaten rioters around you without having to aim the gun directly in their faces, which can be useful when you’re surrounded. Make sure your gun is loaded for this to work – if rioters know your gun is empty, they’ll just continue attacking.
- Only bother threatening rioters who you have to run near – the goal of a rioting district is to sprint directly to your goal, and many rioters can be run around.
If you have plenty of health/healing items, it can be useful to boost your Mania in a rioting district to get away from rioters quicker!
Make your way to the disused boiler room at the bottom of the district to find two bandits standing outside the door (use your map or Concentration Mode for specific directions). When you approach them, you’ll have a quick conversation with them.
These bandits will not fall for the threatening strategy indefinitely. They’ll stop attacking you, but only for a while, and then they’ll try again. You will have to kill one of them. A single shot to the head will kill one, and the other will immediately surrender.
Once this is done, you can interact with the door to talk to Rubin. He won’t let you in, simply telling you to come back on another day.
