Despite radio silence from Square Enix regarding what might be next for Life is Strange following Double Exposure, we now know exactly what’s coming next. Life is Strange: Reunion, a new installment that brings core characters Chloe Price and Max Caulfield back together.
Even though Square hasn’t even teased its next Life is Strange game yet, let alone announced it, the cat is out of the bag thanks to a pretty concrete leak. Not the type of leak that needs to be taken with a grain of salt, but one that is essentially set in stone, as it comes directly from PEGI, Europe’s video game ratings board.
PEGI Rating Reveals Life Is Strange: Reunion Details
Reunion appeared on the PEGI website this week, along with a synopsis of the game, although the information appears to have been removed, likely after whoever posted it realized that the game hadn’t been officially revealed yet. The internet has seen it now, though, which means we now know about Reunion and what to expect from its story.
As you might have guessed from the name of the game, coupled with the fact that it will star both Chloe and Max, the series will bring the characters back together. PEGI’s leaked description reads, “Chloe Price was Max Caulfield’s partner in time: losing her is Max’s greatest regret. Now Chloe has come to Caledon University. Haunted by nightmares and impossible memories, Chloe needs Max’s help,” (thanks, Push Square.
Life Is Strange Deserves To Keep Exploring Max’s Story
Life is Strange doesn’t have to end here.
Despite the short description, there’s a lot for Life is Strange fans to dissect there, and plenty for them to start spinning potential theories. Heavy spoilers for the original Life is Strange from this point on, but there are two ways its story can go, the core plotpoint being that Chloe either dies or she does not.
Chloe And Max Will Reunite At College In Reunion
That poses a problem for future games with Chloe and Max at the center of them, as it requires the developers to choose a canon path. Deck Nine sidestepped that in Double Exposure by letting the player choose if she survived the events of the original game or not right at the start of the sequel. Chloe appears via Max’s memories regardless, but will also post on social media if she’s alive.
We don’t have much to go on in terms of Reunion, but it sounds like there won’t be that same decision to make, and that the team behind it, presumably Deck Nine, has run with the timeline where Chloe survives being the canon one. It sounds like we might be looking down the barrel of having our hearts broken all over again, though, as the PEGI description insinuates Chloe will have to try and save Max from a fire on the college campus.
Despite no official reveal from Square regarding what’s next for Life is Strange, a new game being far enough along in development that it’s already being rated makes sense. There are typically two to three years between series entries, and it’s been two years since Double Exposure was released. Square is also likely keen to get a new game out there, which revives people’s love for the series after Double Exposure sales fell way short of expectations.
