Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed a number of times now. The latest one saw it go from May 26 to November 19, 2026. It was widely speculated that this latest delay was due to the fact that Rockstar wanted more time to polish the game before launch, while all the content and features were ready. However, it seems that may not be the case.
According to Jason Schreier, the devs are still working towards finishing all the content that will be included in the game, rather than simply polishing up a ready product. While some insiders were certain about the November release date, Schreier says that even Rockstar employees aren’t 100 percent sure of it.
GTA 6’s November Release Date Is Starting To Look Shaky
Speaking on the latest episode of the Button Mash podcast (thanks, Insider), Schreier gave an update of where things stand with the development of GTA 6. He said that the game isn’t content ready as of yet and that it’s hard to say whether the studio will be able to hit the November 19 launch date (5:22).
“The last I heard, it was still not content complete,” he said. “That is to say people were still finishing things up, still finalizing levels, and missions, and seeing what is going to make it into the game.” He also mentioned that the ‘content complete’ phase comes after ‘feature complete’ and before bug fixing. But devs can always add in more content even in the bug fixing stage.
What GTA 6’s Delay Means For The Games Industry
The entire release calendar moves every time GTA 6 does, so how will the latest delay impact everything else?
Speaking about the release date, Schreier said, “It’s really hard to say right now, and I don’t think anyone at Rockstar can tell you, with 100 percent certainty, that they will make it out in November.” However, he did add that people feel like it is more solid than the May deadline.
As for whether we’ll see another delay for GTA 6, he noted that Rockstar will want the game to be as perfect as possible, but has a buffer until March 31, 2027, as per the fiscal calendar. Rockstar clearly has no problems with multiple delays, and has the option to do so if needed.
