Expedition 33 Boss Uses Failed Expedition Flags As A Cape

Expedition 33 Boss Uses Failed Expedition Flags As A Cape

There were many reasons why Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 cleaned up at The Golden Joysticks, The Game Awards, my personal Game of the Year list, and likely every single award show between now and next December. Its immaculate character design, excellent acting, stunning narrative, and attention to detail have all been cited as reasons why Sandfall Interactive’s RPG is generational, even if controversy has been brewing around it over the last few days.

It’s one of those rare games in which the lore runs so deep that discoveries are likely to continue to be made long after its release. To prove that point, six months on, one player has discovered that the cape of one of Expedition 33’s bosses is actually made from failed expedition flags.

Spoilers for one of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s boss fights ahead.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s Dualliste Laughs In The Face Of Previous Expeditions

The Forgotten Battlefield is one of the most memorable areas of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. It’s an area rich in lore, strewn with the corpses of previous expeditioners who had tried to pass through. Both Expedition 57 and Expedition 41 abandoned hope as they traversed the area, with Expedition 41 agreeing they would compete to take down as many Nevrons as possible, and it’s to be the resting place of fan favorite Gustave.

The area is notoriously dangerous, with its opening cutscene showing a hulking Nevron patrolling it, and it’s this Nevron that hides a very interesting, very well-hidden secret.

Alongside winning a Performer of the Year award, herself.

The Dualliste is the Forgotten Battlefield’s boss and the one responsible for the mountains of corpses littered throughout. Much like many Nevrons, you don’t find out the boss’s true intentions, but its cape may reveal a little more.

Spotted by Redditor Blubbpaule, the Dualliste’s cape is sewn together from the flags of previous expeditioners who perished in the area. It’s a sign that this boss simply kills for sport and takes trophies from those it defeats. It’s easily one of the most prolific killers in Clair Obscur, given the amount of bodies surrounding it, and the pool of blood Expedition 33 falls into.

Blubbpaule’s discovery was made possible thanks to the game’s new Photo Mode, added to celebrate Clair Obscur’s record-breaking Game Awards haul. With players now able to get new angles on certain enemies and environments, expect many more discoveries like this in the near future.
