Dispatch’s Unused Romance Scenes Were Cut Due To Budget

Dispatch’s Unused Romance Scenes Were Cut Due To Budget

Two lead developers on Dispatch have revealed that the recently uncovered cut romance scenes for Blonde Blazer and Invisigal were actually never made in the first place.

Ever since Dispatch’s fourth episode dropped, the main thing that has dominated all conversations about it is the romance options. Whether you’ve got good taste and go for Invisigal or don’t follow trends and try your luck with Blonde Blazer, Dispatch has you more than covered with plenty of ship-worthy scenes.

Aside from the saucy dream sequence that opens Dispatch’s fourth episode, the game is surprisingly lacking in any concrete romantic scenes between Robert and whoever he ends up dating. Fans have theorised that wasn’t always the case, though, as the game’s code references scenes where Blonde Blazer or Invisigal were meant to “stay over”. As it turns out, though, those scenes never really existed.

Dispatch’s Party Romance Scenes Never Actually Existed

Director’s Cut When?

Earlier this week, Eurogamer had the chance to talk to AdHoc co-founders Nick Herman and Pierre Shorette, who revealed lots of interesting tidbits about the game’s development and what could be in store for its future. Considering Herman recently confirmed that the sex scenes were cut from the game and could eventually be seen, Eurogamer asked the pair for some clarification.

Dispatch stars Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, and Alanah Pearce on the superhero adventure game from former Telltale talent.

Shorette started out by confirming the theories that the cut scenes would have taken place after the party in Episode 6, but they ended up being cut from the game for one simple reason – “money”. Herman explains that the whole party in that episode was almost an entire episode, but that it had to be cut down for budget reasons, which includes the assumedly raunchy stay-over scenes.

So just to say it: those scenes were never storyboarded. They didn’t go into animation. So people say ‘release them’: they never tangibly existed. – Nick Herman

That being said, those scenes didn’t actually “tangibly” exist in the first place, since Shorette confirms they were never storyboarded or animated. Everything that was made for Dispatch ended up shipping, but the cut romance scenes are really just leftover code in the game that don’t have any concrete substance to them.

That isn’t to say that the team was never planning on having the scenes, though, as Shorette and Herman make it clear that the original vision for that episode would have included them. But to anyone hoping they get added in later down the line, that’s sadly impossible since there’s simply nothing to actually add in. Here’s hoping the potential Season 2 rights that wrong.
