Final Fantasy 14 Fans Are Obsessed With A Weak Goat Accidentally Added In Patch 7.4

Final Fantasy 14 Fans Are Obsessed With A Weak Goat Accidentally Added In Patch 7.4

Final Fantasy 14 is a pretty janky game. I love it dearly, but sometimes it feels like it’s being held together with shoestrings, chewing gum, and a couple of prayers. A lot of the problems with the game come down to the “spaghetti code”, as fans like to call it, and now and then, a bug so unbelievably strange will seep through and cause a few giggles here and there.

With the release of Patch 7.4 earlier this week, we now have a new one to contend with, but instead of getting angry or calling the game broken and janky, this bug has actually managed to amass somewhat of a cult following.

As explained by Reddit user Jado1stk2 in the post above, Patch 7.4 has a rather strange bug which causes a certain type of enemy to “erroneously spawn” in the Coerthas Western Highlands, which are back in Heavensward. These enemies look like your typical Steinbock that you’d normally find in the area, but are instead tagged with “Lv 1” and that’s pretty much it. In the game’s party chat and logs, it’s officially referred to as a single dot.

Is Jonathan Bailey just sick, or has he been replaced?

This is a known issue that Square Enix is aware of and will probably fix at some point, but for now, these weak little goats are amassing quite the fanbase, turning the Coerthas Western Highlands into a bit of a tourist hotspot. Across social media, you can find gatherings of Final Fantasy 14 players sitting around the creatures and taking pictures with them, and if you happen to think about killing one, you will legitimately upset quite a few people in the area. They even have fan art which is downright incredible.

As for exactly why these adorable little goat deer things are actually popping up, there are a couple of interesting theories floating around. We know that the limited Beastmaster job is coming in Patch 7.5, as revealed by Yoshi-P a little while ago, so some people reckon this could be a test animal that has mistakenly slipped into Patch 7.4 without being removed first.

Of course, we have no way of knowing that for sure, at least until we actually get to try out Beastmaster ourselves. So for now, these little guys will have to remain a delightful mystery, and they will most likely get patched out in the game’s next update, whenever that may drop, so go and get a picture of one of these little marvels before they’re gone for good.
