Z-A DLC Not Sitting Well With Fans

Z-A DLC Not Sitting Well With Fans

Despite only having released on October 16, or literally less than two months ago, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the latest installment in the Pokemon franchise, already has its first major DLC expansion out on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

That stands in stark contrast to Sword and Shield, which received its two expansions several months after its initial release, as well as Scarlet and Violet, which similarly received its first DLC nearly a year after the game’s release.

Whatever the reason may be, Mega Dimension is officially out as of December 10. Unfortunately, it seems like it isn’t sitting well with fans, and on social media they’re letting all their complaints fly.

It’s Not The First DLC Nintendo Arguably Missed The Mark On

Over on Reddit, u/OperationRoyal asked a simple question — For those that bought the DLC, is it worth it to you? The answer? Not really.

“I wish I could put it into words better, but the thing that really gets me is, for $30, we got two awesome DLCs in SV and for the same price we got two pretty good DLCs in SwSh,” one person wrote. “For $30 in legends za we get sections of a new map that are minorly changed from the base game, some more Pokemon and Megas, and a mechanic that severely limits how you engage with the DLC.”

I want to love it, but I’ve not really been given a reason to so far.

That sentiment pretty much tracks across the board with those who’ve responded so far. There are some good things in there, including two new shiny hunting mechanics, as well as an easier way to get a shiny charm. But overall, it’s expensive and not very fulfilling.

“Is it fun? Yes, I’m enjoying it,” another wrote. “But, it truly feels like they took the post-game, chopped it off, made a few changes and presented it as a DLC.”

That was echoed by another top commenter, who wrote, “Nintendo charges far too much money for their products. It is fun but far too expensive.”

As it stands, the user score on Metacritic is 3.9. Granted, there are 29 reviews, but that people found it that bad this early to write something negative is somewhat telling, all told.

Somehow, it’s not the only DLC Nintendo has offered this year that people were rather “meh” about, as Donkey Kong Bananza’s DK Island & Emerald Rush DLC, which cost $19.99, was similarly poorly received. Its user score is 5.0 on Metacritic, which is pretty low, especially considering how well-received Bananza was.

Whether Legends: Z-A has another DLC coming or that’s it until we get another Pokemon game remains to be seen. What we do know, for now at least, Mega Dimension is not sitting well with people.
