Way back in 2021, Yakuza fans will remember that the series lost its creator, Toshihiro Nagoshi. It was a pretty rough time for fans of the franchise at the time, though a sliver of hope was revealed when Nagoshi announced that he would be creating his own studio. That opened up back in 2021, and ever since, we haven’t heard much about what he’s been working on.
However, it seems as though Nagoshi is now ready to show off his work. At The Game Awards earlier today, Nagoshi revealed his new title Gang of Dragon, which appears to take place in Kamurocho.
Yakuza Creator Has Revealed His Next Game
Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see many details about the game, apart from what the game’s main character looks like, who is played by Korean actor Ma Dong-seok. The trailer starts off with him getting stabbed, so it doesn’t look like Nagoshi is going for a more light-hearted story like we’ve seen from the Yakuza series.
We then see him taking on some thugs in a bar, which ends up with one taking a bullet in the forehead. He’s then brawling with some people who we assume are bad guys, using weaponry such as an assault rifle and katana, before we see a shot of him walking underneath the famous Kamurocho sign. So far, so very Yakuza.
Of course, it will most likely differ in some way. Nagoshi has gone on record explaining that he’d like to make something other than Yakuza, and while it does look very Yakuza, it has a very different tone.
