Amiibos have been around for a while now, and unsurprisingly, Nintendo has continued to support them in some of their early Switch 2 releases, including Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. In honor of Metroid’s release specifically, Nintendo has released three brand-new Amiibos that include Sylux, Samus and Vi-O-la, and Samus.
Of course, these aren’t the only Amiibos that can be used in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. If you happen to have any of the old Metroid amiibos, including Dark Samus, Zero Suit Samus, Samus (Smash Bros.), Samus (Metroid Dread), Samus Aran, Ridley, E.M.M.I., and Metroid, then you will be able to scan those as well.
How To Scan Amiibos
The process of actually utilizing an amiibo varies by game and the controller you’re using. Since Metroid is available on both the Switch and Switch 2, you’ll be able to scan Amiibos for this game using either console, and its associated controllers. The first step to scanning an amiibo is navigating the in-game menu to find the option to scan.
In Metroid Prime 4, to scan an amiibo, you’ll need to open up the main menu and navigate to the far right tab, where you’ll see an amiibo icon. Here, you’ll have the option to scan an amiibo. Select that, and you’ll see an information screen telling you where to place your Amiibo to scan it. Whether you’re using a Switch or Switch 2, the placements are the same.
- Joy-Cons— Place the amiibo on your right analog stick.
- Pro Controller— Place the amiibo in the center of the controller, over the Switch or Switch 2 logo on the controller.
Even if you are using the Joy-Con connector, which turns it into one controller, you will still treat it as separate Joy-Cons and place the amiibo on the right analog stick.
Once you’ve scanned the amiibo, you should see a screen that says an amiibo was detected, after which it will provide you with the associated reward. If you scan an amiibo that is not supported, you will see a screen telling you that the amiibo you scanned is not compatible.
You Can Play Some Music While Riding Vi-O-La In Metroid Prime 4, But Only If You Buy A $30 Amiibo
Unless you like riding in total silence.
All Amiibo Scans And What They Unlock
As mentioned, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is compatible with all Metroid amiibos, including older ones and the ones from Super Smash Bros. While some games often let you scan amiibos not directly associated with them for minor rewards, Metroid Prime 4 does not and will simply tell you the amiibo is not compatible. So, if you don’t see an amiibo listed below, it is not compatible.
Unfortunately, even though the old Metroid amiibos are compatible, only the Metroid Prime 4 amiibos are going to give you an actual reward, as most of the others will only play a unique sound when scanned. That said, for a breakdown of all rewards, please see the table below:
