How To Defeat Sylux In The Power Core In Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been released, so it’s time to step into the boots of bounty hunter Samus Aran. Once again, you’ll find yourself skulking through the halls of abandoned facilities while everything tries to tear you apart.

The big bad this time around is Sylux, a rival bounty hunter whom you will frequently encounter throughout the game. Never one to miss an opportunity to try and kill Samus, Sylux will appear for a second one-on-one in the Volt Forge seconds after you acquire the Thunder Chip. Here’s how to deal with this troublesome boss so you can leave with your newest upgrade.

How To Defeat Sylux

Similar to your first fight with Sylux, he will focus on trying to overwhelm you with a variety of different attacks. If you remember the previous battle, Sylux will use suped-up versions of all these moves, making them more dangerous and harder to avoid.

Attack

Description

Homing Missiles

Sylux will spawn five homing missiles over his body and fire them at you in groups.

Energy Wave

Sylux launches into the air and then strikes the ground in front of him. This will spawn a large energy wave that can be jumped over. He will occasionally chain this move into multiple slams, causing multiple energy waves.

Melee Dash

Sylux raises his arm in front of him and quickly dashes to your last known position, swiping 180 degrees in front of him the moment he reaches you. His movement is way more erratic this time around, and he may swipe twice when he launches the attack.

Shooting

Sylux fires his own cannon at the player while he runs around the arena.

Electric Floor

Sylux floats into the air and charges his cannon up with a huge ball of energy. When he finishes, the ground will electrify, and he will talk around the arena, electrifying any nearby grapple points.

Energy Bombardment

Sylux flies in the air and launches himself at Samus. As he flies towards you, he will fire a rapid rain of energy bombs behind him.

When the fight starts, you will want to first make a note of all the Psychic Grapple points in the room. There are several that form a ring around the room, with two located on adjacent walls that you can hang on. This will be important later, and you won’t have much time to actually look for these points when it matters.

Additionally, Sylux’s moves will be much stronger this time around, with him either attacking faster or more often, depending on the move. For example, Energy Wave now has Sylux striking the ground multiple times as he advances towards you. Sylux will also occasionally launch a taller energy wave that you’ll need to double jump over.

Missiles are your best bet for damaging Sylux, as his erratic, quick movement makes him tough to hit with the Flame and Ice Shots. Sylux will also have a big damage window after he performs the tall Energy Wave, as he will fall to his knees to recover.

Your biggest threat is the Electric Floor move, as it not only does a ton of damage but will drastically hinder your movements, making you an easy kill. You can tell when Sylux is about to perform this move, as he will float in the air, raise his arm, and begin gathering a huge ball of energy over his head.

The second you see this, drop everything and look for a grapple point around you. Sylux will electrify the floor, and you’ll need to swing from grapple point to grapple point to avoid taking damage. Alternatively, you can latch onto the grapple points along the wall, which allows Samus to free aim and shoot Sylux as he walks around.

Keep in mind, if Sylux gets close, he will electrify the point you’re on and knock you off. So don’t let him get close!

His second new move is a twist on his previous energy bombardment from the first encounter. Instead of staying static, Sylux will launch himself at you while firing behind him. Unless you are far away, you’ll need to either dodge left or right before he reaches you.

Thankfully, Sylux won’t have any more surprises for you during this fight, nor will he suddenly introduce another set of new moves. The best trick to beating Sylux is staying mobile and using the pillars around the arena to block his attacks. You’ll also want to destroy the homing missiles he fires, as these will be your main source for recovering health during the boss fight.

Upon defeating Sylux, he will, shocker, be revealed as another robot being controlled. You can now leave and return to Mackenzie to earn the Thunder Shot upgrade.
