Just three days ago, insider Kurakasis set the collective Internet gaming world on fire when they shared on social media that a “big” Star Wars game announcement is coming “very soon.” Of course, The Game Awards take place next week on December 11, and there’s no better place for big announcements.
What’s more, the announcement isn’t related to already existing games Zero Company or Eclipse.
Flash forward three days later, and Kurakasis is back on social media with an even more massive hint: the game’s title reportedly ends with — wait for it — “The Old Republic.”
Listen, before anyone starts getting hyped for a re-reveal of the previously-announced Knights of the Old Republic remake that was canceled, then restarted and seemingly still in the works, it’s worth noting that there is another “The Old Republic” when it comes to Star Wars games. That is, the long-running MMO literally titled Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Does Anyone Actually Believe That Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake Still Exists?
I’ve got a bad feeling about this.
Now that it’s been established that the game in question is related to “The Old Republic” in some way, and won’t be the next Jedi title or something else, there’s another game that Star Wars fans think is on the horizon.
Total War Meets Star Wars
Earlier this week during the Total War 25th anniversary stream, the team at Creative Assembly closed out the presentation by revealing that the next Total War game will be revealed at next week’s The Game Awards show.
That’s important because, last year it was reported that one of the Total War titles that Creative Assembly was working on featured the Star Wars license. It was reportedly one of three titles being worked on, and well, we know what the other two are courtesy of that stream.
Those reports seemingly corroborated a bit of insider information from VGC’s Andy Robinson, who, back in 2023, said that a Star Wars RTS from a “big-name” developer would be on its way relatively soon.
Given that the Knights of the Old Republic remake is in development hell, the next best bet would seem to suggest that Total War x Star Wars is on the table, and that game’s setting will be “The Old Republic.” With just a few days remaining until The Game Awards, we’re about to find out soon.
