Find Out Your Gaming Age Based On Your Favourite Games Of 2025

Every year, Spotify Wrapped throws a new angle into the mix to keep us on our toes. As well as the obvious cataloguing of our most played artists and songs – even if we swear we didn’t even listen to Taylor that much – there’s always a gimmick. In the past, it’s been what location in the world most suits our taste, or a burger assembled with our most played genres (remember that?). This year, it was our age.

Whether we were down with the kids or chopped and unc (and I’m hearing from my younger colleagues that anyone who says ‘down with the kids’ is automatically unc), our tastes reflected our spiritual age as music listeners. How Spotify comes to this number is by looking at the years you’re most often pulling from. Listen to a lot of ’90s stuff, and it assumes you’re around 40 – which is weird given the ’90s were what, ten years ago?

But in gaming, it’s a little different. Most of us were playing modern games this year instead of digging out old copies of Jak and Daxter. Yet not all modern games are created equal. Let’s take a look at how old your gaming soul is based on the games you’ve been playing this year.

10 – Roblox

You are the youngest person ever! Either that or you’re a creep harassing the actual kids playing Roblox. Please don’t be the latter.

Note: Chuck Fortnite and Schedule 1 in here, too.

15 – Borderlands 4

Hey, someone must find this funny.

Confession – I happen to enjoy Borderlands quite a bit, despite being far too old for it. However, the urge to dunk outweighs the cost.

20 – Arc Raiders

A raider opening a supply drop while another keeps watch in Arc Raiders.

20 is one of the coolest ages you can be, and Arc Raiders emerged from nowhere as one of the coolest games of the year. But it’s specifically cool in the way everything a 20 year old likes is cool – that is to say, obnoxiously.

A more niche shooter than its wide appeal would suggest, Arc Raiders often found itself in the headlines over an insistence that it be taken seriously as a legitimate Game of the Year contender, while also suffering from the kind of selfish community spirit that rejects the casual support that could propel it to even greater stardom.

25 – Blue Prince

A Small Chest In The Gallery Room With Four Gold Pieces And The Room 8 Key Inside In Blue Prince.

Fantasy is an incredibly popular genre in gaming, and Blue Prince features the greatest fantasy any 25 year old can conceive of – you own a house.

30 – Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Maelle looking onward with an expression of shock, despair, and pain in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Not just because of the fitting titular age, either. If you liked Expedition 33, and most people did, you probably recommended it to people by saying something like ‘and it’s not even that long!’. This makes you An Old. And in this modern age, 40 is not the new 20. 30 is the new 50.

If the biggest appeal of a game all about confronting your mortality is that it doesn’t take too much of your all too precious time on Earth left, you are probably navigating through the existential quagmire known as ‘being 30’.

Split Fiction is another game squarely aimed at 30 year olds, and Avowed is another one whose selling point was ‘short’.

35 – Date Everything

Date everything ben-hwa art.

Somebody once said that Date Everything’s responses are written as if you’re a Millennial white woman who says they love rap music because they listen to Hamilton. That person was correct.

The raunchiness of this game is mostly presented in the same way as those incredibly cringe fast food menus that have ‘Mommy’s Dirty Little Fries’ topped with a helping of ‘Daddy’s Cream’. It’s kind of fun if you’re prepared to not take it seriously, but it’s trying so hard to be erotic it ends up circling back around. Welcome to the mid 30s dating pool!

Hades 2 and Dispatch also have this vibe, admittedly to a much lesser degree.

40 – Ball x Pit

The Skeleton King boss being hit in Ball x Pit.

Remember when pinball was a thing? Remember when pixels were a thing? Those were the days! And they can be again with Ball x Pit. Ah, youth.

45 – Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7

Alex Mason and his crew in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

The world has moved on and you’re old! Deal with it. Call of Duty is now firmly in the dad game sphere, and while it remains a titan of the industry played by gamers of all ages, those squeaky voiced teens have grown into big buff dudes with beards who sound like they could actually back up the various threats of violence that go hand in hand with playing Call of Duty.

Warzone would pull your age down a little, but realistically the cutting edge of the shooter genre can now be found in shinier, more colourful games. The world you grew up in is gone.

EA FC 26 really should be in this club, but a lack of competition means it still has the younger crowd secured for now.

50 – Hollow Knight: Silksong

The character Hornet fighting enemies with their needle in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Tell us what it was like when the first Hollow Knight came out when you were just a little boy, grandpa? Tell us the saga of waiting and waiting and waiting you endured.
