There are eight Crested Keys in Octopath Traveler 0, and you’ll need every one of them if you intend to snag all eight legendary weapons. The weapons are all great, and they’ll doubtless be a big help as you turn toward the massive story’s final stages, so really, there’s very little reason to avoid collecting these keys.

Octopath Traveler 0: Beginner Tips
Don’t leave what’s left of Wishvale without these tips for your Octopath Traveler 0 adventure.
Eight might not be a lot, but in a game as sprawling as Octopath Traveler 0, with its countless NPCs and off-the-beaten-path dungeons, finding every Crested Key might be harder than it sounds.
Every Crested Key Location In Octopath Traveler 0
|
Source |
Location |
Notes |
|---|---|---|
|
Starting inventory |
Automatic |
Simply select Crested Key as one of your initial inventory items, and it will save you some trouble later on. Don’t worry, this isn’t mandatory. |
|
Viator |
Valore (Tavern) |
Viator will have a Crested Key when he joins the party. It seems like Viator is ready to join once you’ve located a Crested Key in the overworld. |
|
Mystery-Chasing Explorer |
Sufraltajah |
Entreat the Mystery-Chasing Explorer here. |
|
Black Market Merchant |
Grandport |
You’ll find this NPC specifically in the Grandport Markets section of the city, and you must use Entreat in order to acquire the Crested Key. |
|
Young Antique Dealer |
Victors Hollow |
In order to get your hands on Young Antique Dealer’s prized possession, use the Purchase path action. |
|
Treasure Chest |
Sweltering Cave |
You can only reach the Sweltering Cave via Berecain Pass. |
|
Treasure Chest |
Cyphlo Banks |
Donescu can’t be entered until you’re sent there early in the Bestower of Power arc, and the Cyphlo Banks are just past that town, so you’ll have to hold off until then to find this chest. |
|
Shining Blue Item |
Outersea (Isle East) |
It’s here on this island, and it’s one of those shiny spots that are hard to miss. |
Now for the big question: how do you get the eighth key if you didn’t choose it at the beginning of the game? Unfortunately, we’re not sure. What we do know is that it simply must be an option, as there’s no way the devs would have locked a legendary weapon behind a nebulous choice.
It’s been theorized that it’s a town upgrade reward of some kind, and I’m inclined to concur.
Uniting The Keys
After you have at least one key – and Viator – you’ll have the Isle of Heroes marked on your Outersea map. Head there with your ship (we’ve got a guide on how to get one), watch the scene, and interact with the door to the tower.
Take the teleporter to the top, and there will be a boss fight. Thankfully, it’s the only one! I beat it pretty comfortably around level 65, but it’s undoubtedly doable at lower levels with a decent setup. Just make sure you’ve got a healer ready, as it hits pretty hard.
Following the fight, you can start taking each weapon, and enjoying the quick little scenes with Viator for each one. Do note, though, that each key actually corresponds to a specific weapon, so if you can’t seem to grab a particular weapon yet, it’s because you currently lack that key.
I have to credit my friend Adam Vitale at RPG Site for this, by the way – he helped me to realize I was still missing a key, without which this guide wouldn’t exactly be very useful. Check out RPG Site’s own coverage of Octopath Traveler 0!
