If you have been keeping track of how much console prices have risen recently, you’ll know it’s rough out there. You might even be kicking yourself right about now for not picking up a PS5 while they were discounted in PlayStation’s Black Friday sale. Good news, you can stop kicking yourself, as even though Black Friday weekend is over, PS5s have not returned to their MSRP.
They won’t be for a while either. PlayStation reduced the price of all PS5 models, including the PS5 Pro, as part of its Black Friday sale. While some of those discounts have disappeared, the $100 cut from all of its PS5s has not. You can still buy a PS5 for $100 less than you’d normally pay, and the discount will remain in place until 7:59 am on December 25, 2025.
PS5s Won’t Get Really Expensive Again Until After Christmas
That means if you were planning to buy yourself or a loved one a new PS5 for the holidays and you didn’t have the money over Black Friday weekend, or you just forgot, it isn’t going to cost you. The discount is still available, and even if you leave it right up until Christmas Eve, you will still be able to save $100 when buying a current-gen PlayStation console.
I would not recommend leaving it that late if this is going to be a Christmas gift. You might get it for less, but it will not arrive in time to be unwrapped on Christmas morning.
All three of the latest PS5 models are included in the extended Black Friday sale. The PS5 Pro’s price has been dropped from $749 to $649, a standard slim PS5 is now $449 instead of $549, and the cheapest option of all is the digital slim PS5 which, if you buy it before 8 am on Christmas Day, will cost $399 rather than the usual $499 it retails for following the most recent price hikes.

Select PS5 bundles are still in stock and still on sale, too. The black version of the Ghost of Yotei PS5 has had its price dropped by $100, too, and the new Fortnite PS5 bundles are still available for the same price as the discounted consoles that don’t include the Fortnite extras. The Fortnite bundles don’t have an end date attached, which presumably means they’ll remain at those prices until they’re gone.
While this is all framed as good news, because it is, if you take a step back and look at the console price situation as a whole, it’s a worrying sign of things to come. Current-gen console MSRPs are up to 34 percent higher today than they were when the consoles launched more than five years ago. Even after its $100 discount, the digital PS5 is only $1 cheaper than the base version was in 2020.
On the bright side, even though it has more than 300 GB of extra storage, the cheapest PS5 is currently cheaper than an Xbox Series S, and unless the Xbox gets an unexpected price cut, things will stay that way until Christmas Day.
