Earlier this month, Magic: the Gathering announced a Monster Hunter Secret Lair Superdrop featuring some of the iconic monsters from Capcom’s legendary IP. This comes along with Secret Lair crossovers of other PlayStation IPs like Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us, and was scheduled to drop on December 1. However, Wizards of the Coast has announced that the Monster Hunter crossover is being reworked after backlash from fans.
It seems a lot of MTG fans were underwhelmed by the reveal of the cards, with many complaining that they barely had anything to do with Monster Hunter. Fans of the video game series feel like the monster selection isn’t very good, and that Wizards only picked the most generic monsters that resembled dragons. Thankfully, MTG has addressed this issue and will be reworking the entire set.
MTG Monster Hunter Secret Lair Is Being Fully Reworked
Wizards of the Coast announced yesterday that the entire set will be redesigned, in an unprecedented move. “Let’s cut to the chase: the Secret Lair x Monster Hunter Superdrop we revealed last week fell short of expectations. We heard loud and clear that you were disappointed, and we believe we can do better. So, we’re going to postpone this release and rework this Superdrop entirely,” said a blog post.
“Like many of you, we’re big fans of Monster Hunter. It’s why we put this Superdrop together. But in our excitement, we missed the mark on elements like card selection and faithfully integrating the world and mechanics of Monster Hunter. As a result, the overall construction of this Superdrop is not up to the standard you have come to expect.”
Magic: The Gathering Players Trying To Rank The Worst Sets Of All Time Shows We Really Shouldn’t Be Listened To
Most MTG players wouldn’t know a bad set if it punched them in the face and ripped up their Commander deck.
It noted that pulling back a Superdrop like this has never been done before, but the creators are committed to improving it. Even Capcom is onboard with this decision, and the new reveal will happen some time next year. It seems the backlash was too strong for Wizards to ignore, ultimately leading to the decision to rework the Monster Hunter Secret Lair.
