Developing relationships with other wanderers in Where Winds Meet makes the gameplay that much more immersive, and you never know what misadventures you can get up to with your friends or strangers. As you continue to play, you may find your heart growing fonder towards someone–or many someones.
Starting these relationships can be tricky, but we’ll walk you through it so you can get as much as you can out of each treasured bond. Here’s everything you need to know about adding friends, building relationships, and creating sworn bonds with your most precious allies across Qinghe–and what rewards they may bring.
How To Build NPC Relationships
Unfortunately, you cannot romance NPCs in Where Winds Meet, but you can build platonic relationships with them by doing good deeds. As you complete quests and favors for NPCs, you’ll increase your affinity with them.
The higher your affinity, the more rewards you’ll get. From unlocking their personal stories to getting access to better items from merchants, it’s worth being kind to your fellow man. Just be warned that attacking someone or doing heinous things can potentially sabotage your relationships or get you kicked out of your sect.

Just what the doctor ordered.
Some NPCs also have AI chatbots, so you can have more immersive conversations with them. However, this won’t always lead to anything other than a few good laughs and some excellent roleplay. You may not be able to officially romance these characters, but you can certainly talk circles around them and convince them otherwise.
Non-player relationships are just as important to nurture as player relationships, so be sure to chat with the people you encounter to see if you can find any additional information or tips in your travels.
How To Build Player Relationships
While most games allow you to add friends and chat with them, Where Winds Meet takes on more roleplaying elements to make relationships feel more meaningful. For example, you can be friends with anyone, but you can only have one master training you to become a better warrior.
Additionally, your relationships with your friends will grow and develop over time, granting you new rewards and tokens you can exchange in the shops. Open up the social menu to get started!
Several features are only available when you’re in the Online Mode, but Co-Op and Teams can function in the Solo Mode.
If you don’t have any friends to play with right away, you can search the application boards in most categories to find others looking so socialization. Think of it like an in-game dating app for your character, where you can search for allies based on their play schedules, styles, and more on a whim.
What Is A Master And Disciple Relationship?
A master is a player who has reached level 50 and has chosen to take other players under their wing. They act as a guide, and working together grants rewards and bonuses to each player. You can also play minigames together to increase your relationship!
While a master can have up to five disciples at a time, you can only have one master–so choose carefully. A disciple will continue to train under their master until they reach level 40, at which point they can apply to graduate. Graduation is the next step of a disciple’s journey, and doing so will mark your time together with your chosen master as complete.
When you graduate, you’ll receive a special title to commemorate your experience!
Once you reach level 40, Single-player Mode level four, and Discipleship level three, you can apply to graduate from your current master. In doing so, you’ll leave the sect and be unable to rejoin it.
Never fear! By the time you graduate, you’ll be just about ready to make disciples of your own. You can either directly recruit friends of yours or scroll through the list of available disciples in need of a master.
As you complete activities in the Engagement Hub together, whether you’re in Co-Op or a team, you’ll earn Harmony Charms.
How To Increase Intimacy
Intimacy indicates your friendship level with another player. You can increase this level by spending time together in each other’s worlds, completing objectives, and giving special gifts. There’s a limit to how many points you can obtain each week, so be mindful of that when exploring.
When you reach new intimacy levels, you’ll sometimes have a quest or ceremony to complete before you can proceed. Journey there together to continue developing your relationship, whatever that looks like to you. Below is a list of the different intimacy levels and the innate benefits you unlock:

How To Romance Other Players
Finding love in Qinghe and beyond is a worthwhile journey, as everyone deserves to find a devoted partner to travel alongside them. You can directly seek out a romantic relationship by joining a team with your desired partner and making the trip to visit Shi Yimo at the Crimson Cliffs, where you can perform a Destined Union or Form a Partnership.
These are mostly for roleplay purposes, but there is a special store filled with unique items and outfits you can only obtain if you’ve given your heart to another. Marriage is open to all players, regardless of gender!
If you join the Velvet Shade sect, you can even marry multiple players, though this is optional and currently unavailable in the global server.
