Dipatch Fan Figures Out How Old Robert Is

Dispatch fans have figured out how old Robert is meant to be in the game’s timeline, and it somehow makes his career as Mecha Man even more depressing.

One of the best things about Dispatch’s portrayal of its protagonist, Robert Robertson, is that it makes it clear that being a hero isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be, especially if you don’t actually have powers. While Robert’s career as Mecha Man has saved countless people, it’s also put him in financial ruin, separated him from friends and family, and left him with a bit of a death wish.

Dispatch paints Robert’s relationship with his dad and his own role as Mecha Man in a pretty unhealthy light, and it’s clear that the 15 years he spent as the hero have taken their toll on him. As if that wasn’t depressing enough, it actually gets even darker once you realise how young Robert was when he took over the Mecha Man mantle.

Dispatch Fans Think That Robert Is In His Early 30s

Even If The Math Is A Little Off, Robert Clearly Started As Mecha Man From A Young Age

Since Dispatch launched, fans have wondered just how old Robert is, as the game doesn’t exactly spell it out for you like it does with other heroes’ ages. Eagle-eyed and big-brained YouTuber thegamerpillar seems to have figured it out using a few key clues from the game, with the biggest being Chase’s age in the Episode 7 flashback.

The Star-Studded Cast Of Superhero Workplace Comedy Dispatch All Have Secret Identities

Dispatch stars Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, and Alanah Pearce on the superhero adventure game from former Telltale talent.

Chase reveals that he’s 20 years old (and therefore can’t buy beer) in 2003, but he also gives a hint at Robert’s age at that time when he says that he “cried for weeks” when the Raiders left LA. That happened in 1995, meaning that Chase would have been 12 years old, which is apparently around the age that Robert is in 2003.

That’s also assuming that Dispatch’s world roughly follows real-world timelines, too.

When Robert and Chase reunite in the game’s first episode, Chase says that he’s only 39 years old, placing the year the game takes place in as around 2022. That would make Robert 31 years old if he really is 12 in the 2003 flashback. With that and his comment about being Mecha Man for 15 years in mind, that suggests Robert started his superhero career at the young age of 16, which is just very sad.

Of course, this is all assuming that Chase was being literal when he said “when I was your age” in the flashback, as he could just be generalising. Some Redditors point out that Dispatch seems to take place in 2023, which would mean Robert is 32 and took over as Mecha Man when he was 17. Even with those small differences in math, it’s clear that Robert is around 30 and started as Mecha Man very young.
