How To Defeat The Nightmare Boss in CoD: Black Ops 7

The new campaign for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 takes the familiar bombastic action formula and adds a few new elements in an attempt to keep the experience fresh. Along with campaign co-op and a new endgame experience, Black Ops 7 also boasts several boss battles throughout its eleven missions.

One of these is The Nightmare, a massive plant that spews poisonous gas, launches projectile attacks, and commands a horde of zombies. If you’re mainly a Call of Duty player, you might not be as familiar with taking on bosses such as this. Here’s everything you need to know to defeat the plant from Little Shop of Horrors.

How To Beat The Nightmare

The Nightmare is a giant plant that is largely either immune or takes greatly reduced damage, depending on where you shoot it. When the fight starts, focus your fire on the different, smaller flower buds scattered across its stalk. These look exactly like the ones you’ve been blasting throughout this mission and will deal a chunk of damage when they’re destroyed.

While you are doing this, The Nightmare will launch two different types of attacks. The first is a poison breath that deals heavy damage and causes knockback. Play around the cover that’s higher than your player and step behind it when the poison cloud reaches you. The second attack is launching a bunch of spherical, slow-moving projectiles that track you. Either run from them or shoot these projectiles before they hit.

Sniper rifles, DMRs, and longer-range assault rifles are ideal for this fight since you will need to keep your distance from The Nightmare during the fight.

After all the smaller flowers have been destroyed, The Nightmare will become immune and summon a wave of zombies and mutant spiders. Fight these off to force The Nightmare out of its immunity phase and spawn another round of smaller flowers on it. Now repeat the same process of destroying the smaller flowers until they are all gone. The only wrinkle is that now zombies will continuously spawn throughout the fight, so always keep on the move so they don’t surround you.

Once The Nightmare reaches 1/3rd of its health left, no more flowers will spawn on its stalk. Instead, the boss’s main, larger flowers will begin to glow orange whenever they attack. These are its new weak

points. Pick a side and wait until the boss begins to attack, and then shoot the glowing orange “mouth” to deal increased damage to The Nightmare. You’ll need to keep an eye out for zombies, as this is the trickiest part, since you will need to balance shooting, dodging whatever the attack is, and the other enemies running around.

The grenade launcher ability is excellent for this section, as it can nuke the giant flower buds.

When one of the giant flowers takes enough damage, it will wilt and no longer glow orange. This is your signal to move on to the next one and begin attacking it. After all three giant flowers wilt, the boss will be defeated, and you will be thrown into a cutscene. Congratulations, you have beaten probably the most annoying boss in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
