Ubisoft has announced 2023 game Assassin’s Creed Mirage will, all of a sudden, be receiving a new DLC for free, set in AlUla, Saudi Arabia. The news was shared at the Esports World Cup in Saudi Arabia, following reports the Saudi-backed Savvy Games firm would be providing the funding for such an expansion.
Publicly, Ubisoft has said the following: “Assassin’s Creed Mirage players, we have a surprise coming your way later this year!” There’ll be a new story chapter, missions, and a new playable area set in 9th-century AlUla.
As the French publisher is all-in on Assassin’s Creed Shadows at the moment, with its own first expansion releasing on the PS5 next month, the announcement of new Assassin’s Creed Mirage content is a surprise. It’ll even have “gameplay improvements” for the base game, which will expand to the new location.
The reports of such a deal between Ubisoft and Saudi Arabia came from French outlet Les Echoes at the start of this year. While Ubisoft had planned to keep Assassin’s Creed Mirage as a single release with no additional content, it was suggested Saudi Arabia is now providing the funding for DLC following meetings. We now know an expansion will be set in Saudi Arabia.
