Battlefield 6 Players Could Be Banned For Recreating Call Of Duty Maps In Portal

Battlefield 6’s Portal mode has a bunch of tools and features that help players unleash their creative sides, and while a lot of the stuff you’ll find are probably now-defunct XP farms, there are some cool creations that improve the game as a whole. For example, there are loads of custom maps for you to try out, and some people even managed to bring classic Call of Duty maps into Battlefield 6 via the mode.

Call of Duty’s more classic maps, like Nuketown and Shipment, were being made even before the game officially launched, but now that the game is here and firing on all cylinders, it seems like EA and DICE may have had a change of heart when it comes to these kinds of recreations. First reported by Insider Gaming, it appears as though EA is shutting down Call of Duty-inspired maps that have been made in Portal.

In an email seen by Insider Gaming, it claims that one user’s recreation of the map Shipment has been deemed as an “inappropriate reference” to other third party products, pretty much alluding to Call of Duty without actually saying the name of the series. It’s revealed that the name of the map was “Shipment first test” and that the description read “Shipment 2019 edition”, so it doesn’t appear there were any references to Call of Duty besides the recreated map itself.

More concerningly, EA seems to follow this up with a warning that the player in question could be “temporarily or permanently” banned in the future for repeating the same offense. It’s a little silly, especially when we’ve seen other map creators in games like Far Cry 5 regularly get recreations of other games from dedicated users.

Right now, we have no idea whether this is a Call of Duty-related issue, or is a crackdown on recreations in general, but it definitely smells of EA being afraid of catching a stray lawsuit over maps from other games making it into Battlefield 6. However, if you’re someone that has recreated a Call of Duty map in the game, or even attempted to, you might want to either alter it or just straight up delete it, otherwise you might get a warning from EA.
